The VSDC Life-Affirming Thanksgiving is an annual event that brings together vegetarians and non-vegetarians to enjoy compassionate and healthy food and a wonderful social setting.

So join us to celebrate with hundreds of people with a gourmet, all-vegan feast at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda in Bethesda, MD, on Thursday, November 26, 2015. The programming includes a guest speaker, exhibitors, exciting door prizes, a silent auction fundraiser, and a live musical act following lunch.
We will also offer an all-ages kids activity between 12-1pm.

Terry Cummings We are delighted to welcome Terry Cummings, director and co-founder of Poplar Spring AnimalSanctuary as our keynote speaker.
Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is a 400 acre non-profit refuge for farm animals and wildlife located in Poolesville, Maryland. Their mission is to offer care, rehabilitation, and permanent sanctuary for neglected, abused or abandoned farm animals, to provide protected habitat for wildlife, to furnish information to the public regarding farm animal and wildlife issues, and to promote compassion and humane treatment for all animals. Terry will tell us about the wonderful animals at the sanctuary and share pictures and stories of their now joyful lives.

Magic Michael will join us for a kids magic show starting at 12:15pm and close-up magic throughout the program.
Michael Worsham aka Magic Michael is one of the few vegan magicians. He entertains with unique magic on stage, close-up, walk-around, table or street forums. Magic Michael got the magic bug after going to Monday Night Magic in Greenwich Village, N.Y. and the Denny & Lee Magic Club near Baltimore. He also twists balloon animals and characters, and also juggles some too - so he's not just all just smoke and mirrors! Magic Michael performs regularly in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and northern Virginia. He is an active member of the Denny & Lee Magic Club, the Professional Magicians' Club of Lancaster, PA, and two 'rings' of the International Brotherhood of Magicians in Baltimore, MD and Harrisburg, PA. He teaches magic, and plans to create a magic for business course for Udemy.

The Washington Humane Society has been the DC area’s leading voice of compassion for pets and wildlife since 1870 -- yes, 1870! WHS provides comfort and care to nearly 30,000 animals each year through monetary and in-kind donations. VSDC will accept donations from the Washington Humane Society's wish list at our Thanksgiving event.

So Others May Eat
So Others May Eat (SOME) is a community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. They meet the immediate daily needs of the people they serve with food, clothing, and health care, in addition to services to help break the cycle of homelessness. VSDC will be collecting nonperishable vegan food items for SOME’s food bank. Please note that SOME requests that food donations be nonperishable and as healthy as possible. They cannot accept canned soups that are not labeled low-fat, low-sodium.
