Health, Ecology, and Ethics
October 23 Saturday 2004, 11am to 7pm
VSDC is excited to sponsor VegFest DC once again, and with the support of the 14th and U Main Street Initiative. This one-day event is free and open to the general public.
VegFest will take place inside the Frank D. Reeves Center, 14th and U Streets NW, Washington DC, one block west of the U Street Cardozo Metro Station. See travel directions.
VegFest will include a range of presentations on the powerful and empowering benefits of vegetarianism as they relate to personal and public health, environmental sustainability, the end of abuse and exploitation of animals, and the alleviation of global hunger. Sessions will feature prominent speakers, exceptional panels, and creative food preparation demonstrations, to better understand the compelling ideological reasons and also provide practical information on how people can do it simply and successfully.
Many like-minded organizations will exhibit their materials and projects while caterers will offer fabulous vegan food! Door prizes will be given and music is planned. To exhibit or advertise at VegFest (60KB PDF file), the submission deadline is October 9.
All attendees will be asked to register upon arriving, so we may better gauge the event's success. Donations of vegan non-perishable food items will be collected and given to Community of Hope, a local non-profit helping those in need in DC.
October, a special time for vegetarians, is Vegetarian Awareness Month, and also includes World Vegetarian Day (1 October), World Farmed Animals Day (2 October), St. Francis of Assisi's birthday (4 October), and United Nations World Food Day (14 October). 15 October 2004 marks VSDC's 77th anniversary!
Volunteers are needed to assist us throughout the day. Please let us know if you can help make VegFest DC 2004 an overwhelming success. We also need people, from now until VegFest, to distribute VegFest flyers (two flyers per page, 40KB PDF file).
A children's fun activity table will have fun things to do and a volunteer to help.
