2021 VSDC Board Elections
Please vote here May 5 - 23.
I have been a member of the VSDC board for the past two years, and I am currently serving as the editor of VSDC's e-newsletter. I am a vegan chef and food blogger at www.olivethethymekitchen. Following a 25-year career as a nonprofit executive and environmental educator, I earned my culinary certificate in 2016 from the School of Natural Cookery in Colorado. I have also completed Rouxbe’s Forks Over Knives course and the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate at e-Cornell. I have attended Victoria Moran's Main Street Vegan Academy, and I am a certified Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator. I also serve as the Executive Director of the Healthier, Greener, Kinder Foundation.
I believe that VSDC serves a very important role in our community -- providing connections, activities, and support for vegans (as well as those who are veg-curious). I am happy to invest my time in such a worthy organization and would be pleased to continue serving VSDC as a board member for another two years.
Thank you to the Board of VSDC for this opportunity. I am a DC native, plant-based Registered Dietitian, small investor in vegan startups, and supporter of animal rights organizations. I became vegetarian in 2004 after seeing PETA videos and have been vegan for the majority of the time since then. Veganism and animal rights have been an integral part of my life and I love helping people become aware of and safely transition to (and remain on) plant-based diets. I'm currently living with a 9-year-old mutt from (what used to be) WARL and an assortment of rotating foster cats and kittens.
This would be my first board experience and I'd be honored to be given the opportunity to join the board of VSDC and become more involved in the vegan community in the DMV area. If elected, I’ll be prepared and eager to help with anything from databases and behind-the-scenes tasks to event planning and outreach to new and current members. I'm comfortable working in a team environment having previously been part of patients’ care teams while working in a hospital setting and having spent time volunteering with several animal-related nonprofits over the years. I appreciate how the current board members bring such great mixtures of skills and backgrounds to the organization, and I'd love to add what I can. Thank you for your consideration!
