VSDC Breakfast & Hike: Great Sage / Middle Patuxent Trails, Moderate 4.9 Mi

March 8 @ 9:00 am - 1:30 pm

  • This event has passed.

Please join us for a delicious breakfast at Great Sage followed by a 2 hour moderately difficult hike in the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area. We’ll follow the 4.9 mile Wildlife Loop and South Wind Trail Loop trails, enjoying beautiful scenery and some wildlife sightings, if we’re lucky.

This hike is rated as moderate based on natural terrain and gently rolling hills (no more than 400 ft of elevation gain). We’ll be sharing the trail with other hikers, runners and bicyclists and ask that folks walk two abreast, allowing others to pass so that we can “share the road”.

Trail Map: https://www.howardcountymd.gov/sites/default/files/2021-03/Middle%20Patuxent%20Environmental%20Area%20Map.pdf

We’ll meet at 9 am at **[Great Sage](https://greatsage.com/)**, 5809 Clarksville Square Dr, Clarksville, MD 21029, (443) 535-9400. If you want to join us for just the hike, we will be starting out at approximately 11 am from **[the parking lot off Trotter Road](https://maps.app.goo.gl/zB3tx8WjAWEBPgBv5)**. Carpooling is a great way to meet people and help the environment!

Dogs are welcome at the Middle Patuxent Environmental area. Please keep your dog leashed at all times.

Bathroom Facilities/Water: Restroom facilities are available at the Trotter Road entrance to the trails. Please carry plenty of water!

Weather: Be prepared! We will hike rain or shine, but if conditions pose a danger, we’ll cancel the hike and post a notice in the “comments” section. We suggest that hikers wear comfortable footwear and suitable clothing made from quick-dry, synthetic fabrics, as cotton can lead to uncomfortable blisters and life-threatening hypothermia in case of inclement weather.

*Please read The 10 Essentials of Hiking: https://americanhiking.org/resources/10essentials/ *

Pets: When hikes are organized in dog-friendly areas, hikers are invited to bring their pet(s). However, dogs are the sole responsibility of the owner(s) who brought them; should be up-to-date on their vaccinations & in possession of the relevant tags; and should be under the control of their owner(s) at all times. Dogs that demonstrate consistently aggressive or otherwise out-of-control behavior will be banned from future hikes. Owners should come prepared to dispose of their dogs’ waste in appropriate receptacles.

Alcohol/Smoking/Intoxicants: Use of intoxicants such as alcohol, cigarettes and/or illegal substances is banned during the hikes.
