Please join us for a VSDC bike ride! We’ll meet at 10 am on Sunday June 26, 2022 in Rock Creek Park, at Parking Lot 1: https://goo.gl/maps/F6r1z1EmtrAQtSLM9
We will ride up Beach Drive, which is closed to traffic on weekends, and turn onto Woodbine and then Leland Streets and cruise through pleasant, quiet (and somewhat hilly) Bethesda neighborhoods to the Woodmont section of downtown Bethesda where we will break for lunch at new all vegan Planta, that now has outdoor seating – or wherever else you like. Then down the Capital Crescent trail to Georgetown, almost 9 miles of downhill riding. We’ll continue through Georgetown and back up Beach Dr. , returning to the starting parking lot.
Length: 20 miles
Difficulty level: strenuous
Elevation change: 500 ft up and 500 ft down
Bike time: ~2 hours at moderate pace.
Pace: moderate ~12 mph
Total time: ~4 hours (including stops, lunch and exploration).
Biking surface: paved
Route type: mostly trails, some roads and sidewalks.
Short breaks: Picnic Grove 10, Fletcher’s Cove and Georgetown waterfront.
Lunch spot: Bethesda Planta (or your choice)
Food/Water: Bring your own vegan snacks and (non-alcoholic) beverage to enjoy. Please carry plenty of water!
Weather: we will not be riding in rain so stay tuned for Comments on this page.
To find us: We will be in the Rock Creek Park, Parking Lot 1.
Before the ride: we will do a quick check of our bikes. Be sure your bike is in good working order ahead of time.
During the ride: we will plan to stop often to let the group gather together.

* Practice safe biking habits including:
* Wearing a bike helmet
* Keeping a safe distance between each other (bikes don’t have brake lights and tailgating can easily result in crashes)
* Avoid side by side riding unless the road gives us ample opportunity
