VSDC Improve Your Health: Cooking Demo/Food Tasting – WFPB Friendly

May 4 @ 9:45 am - 12:15 pm

Join the [Veg Society of DC](www.vsdc.org) for a vegan whole-food, plant-based cooking demo and food tasting, followed by a chance to mingle with other attendees.

The presenter will explore how a WFPB diet can reduce your risk factors for heart disease, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, inflammation, and obesity. A short video and discussion will provide you with an understanding of how to modify your diet to enhance your health.

After the presentation and cooking demo, you can enjoy a taste of the recipes demonstrated, ask the presenter questions, and interact with other attendees. We will have resources and recipes for you to take home.

The presentation will start at 10:15 am sharp!

Please invite a friend to join you!

**Our Presenter**
Robina Barlow, a VSDC member, is a Certified PCRM Food for Life Instructor who firmly believes that a whole-food, plant-based diet is the best way to attain optimal health and prevent/reverse disease. She is certified in plant-based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and has learned plant-based cooking techniques through the Forks over Knives Plant-based Cooking at the Rouxbe Cooking School. Robina regularly teaches PCRM Food for Life classes in the Washington DC metro area.

[Food for Life](https://www.pcrm.org/good-nutrition/plant-based-diets/ffl) is an award-winning nutrition education and cooking class program that provides an innovative approach to diet-related chronic diseases. Food for Life is designed by physicians, nurses, and registered dietitians and promotes healthful eating based on the latest scientific research.

**Location**
The event will take place in the community room of a high-rise condo, about 2 miles from the Silver Spring Metro and easily accessible from the Beltway. Miranda Schneider, a VSDC member, will be hosting. For security reasons, **the location will be emailed privately to those registered three days in advance via Meetup. Please ensure your email is current in Meetup and that your Meetup settings allow organizer messages. Check your spam folder if you don’t receive the message.** There is plenty of free parking available. You will need to provide the front desk with your license plate number.

**Registration Fee**
The $20 fee will cover the cost of food, drink, and paper supplies. If any proceeds exceed these costs, which we don’t expect, they will go towards VSDC’s work to fulfill its mission. If the cost of the event is an obstacle to your attendance, get in touch with the event organizer for a fee waiver.

The fee is refundable until April 27. A PayPal account is required to pay the fee. Meetup doesn’t offer a waitlist because there is a cost for the event but check back as there may be last-minute cancellations.
